AKRON, Ohio - The Cornell men's swimming and diving team finished day three of the Zippy Invitational in first place with 1511.5 points. Day three was highlighted by a victory in the 400-yard individual medley and a runner-up finish in the 100-yard butterfly.
Cornell opened the night with a major scoring surge in the 100-yard butterfly, where senior
Daniel Simoes placed second in 47.37. Sophomore
Josh Toothman added an eighth-place finish in the A final, while four additional Big Red swimmers scored in the B final, led by junior
Michael Wywrocki in 48.93.
The Big Red then delivered one of their best events of the meet in the 400-yard individual medley, placing four swimmers inside the top eight of the A final. Junior
Julian Correa won the event in 3:51.91, freshman
Quinn Caputo finished second in 4:00.36, and freshman
Duke Garvin added fifth in 4:05.67. Junior
Owen Dankert secured eighth in 4:09.42 to complete a dominant team effort.
In the 200-yard freestyle, senior
Pietro Ubertalli led Cornell with a top-three finish, placing third in 1:37.12. Freshman
Will Chen reached the A final as well, finishing seventh in 1:38.96, while senior
Jacques Grove won the B final in 1:39.24.
