LAST TIME OUT: WOMEN'S POLO DEFEATS YALE INTERSCHOLASTIC 16-7
Cornell women's polo moves to 10-3 on the season after defeating Yale Interscholastic 16-7 on Friday night.
Lara Chong and Isabelle Braden both led the Big Red with six goals each on the evening. They were followed by Ava Ramachandran who notched three.
"Yale has three new players who I had not met or seen play before," said Peter B. Orthwein '68 Head Coach of Polo, Anthony Condo Jr. "and so I didn't know what to expect from them. I think their level of skill and their scrappy-play caught us a little flat-footed at the beginning, finding us in a 3-0 hole before we settled down."
After Yale Interscholastic jumped out to that 3-0 lead early in the first chucker, Cornell scored five unanswered goals to go up 5-3. Yale Interscholastic notched one more goal to end the first down by one 5-4. The second chucker began with the Big Red scoring two goals back-to-back. Yale IS notched one, but Cornell hit another goal before the end of the second chucker in response and went up 8-5 at the end of the half. The third chucker was a Cornell show as they scored five unanswered goals and held Yale IS to no goals in the chucker, putting the Big Red up 13-5. The fourth chucker was back-and-forth, but it was too late for Yale Interscholastic as Cornell defeated them 16-7 in the end.
"This was a good win for us as we had to work quite hard for this one, which is always a great experience for our team as we prepare for the upcoming postseason," said Condo Jr.
Cornell is currently on a three game winning streak and will look to add on to that streak on Friday, Feb. 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the Oxley Equestrian Center.
