Men's Track and Field Prepped and Ready for 2025 HEPS

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell men's track and field will host all eight Ivy League schools at the 2025 Ivy League Indoor Heptagonal Championships for the last time in Barton Hall on Saturday and Sunday.

HEPS MEET INFO

The first day of the Indoor Heptagonal Championships will start at 11 a.m. with the men's weight throw as the first field event with the heptathlon 60m shortly after. Sunday's events will start at 11:30 a.m. with the heptathlon 60m hurdles and shot put.

Cornell is joined in the field by Brown, Columbia, Dartmouth, Harvard, Penn, Princeton and Yale.

Medals will be presented on Saturday and Sunday to the first six-place finishers in individual and relay events. Each event placement will cumulate over the two days for an overall team score. Points will be awarded as follows: First place (10 points), Second place (8 points), Third place (6 points), Fourth place (4 points), Fifth place (2 points) and Sixth place (1 point).

The team champion and individual awards ceremony such as, Men's Most Outstanding Field Performer and Men's Most Outstanding Track Performer, will take place at the conclusion of competition Sunday.

Live results will be posted following each race and field event as fans can follow along on Leone Timing. ESPN+ will have live coverage for both days of the event.

LAST INDOOR HEPS

The team earned 115 points, giving the Big Red an impressive second-place finish at the 2024 Ivy League Indoor Heptagonal Championships. This marked the Big Red's best finish at the Heptagonal Championships since 2017. The Cornellians collected crowns in three events over the course of the weekend along with a plethora of podium finishes.

Damian Hackett paced the mile in a time of 4:03.90 to capture the Ivy League crown. Brad Morell took the oval in the shot put, earning gold with his 18.50-meter career-best throw. The distance medley relay squad of Colden Longley, Michael Mazero, Mario Xerri, and Hackett bested the event, giving Cornell its second consecutive DMR gold at the Heps Championships.

LAST TIME OUT

Cornell men's track and field set a school record at the Alex Wilson Invitational in Indianna while Peter Nortrup won two throws' events and five other took first in events at the Marc Deneault Invitational in Barton Hall.

Peter Northrup won the weight throw with a 17.29m mark and shot put a new personal-best with a 17.77m mark that moves him up to fourth in Cornell record books. Noah Harman (16.22m) and Mannie Arbabi (15.63) placed second and third in the shot put behind Northrup.

Brady Shute (1:53.36), Sam Ayers (1:55.57) and Michael Dizon-Bumann (1:55.79) swept the 800m for the Big Red.

Two pairs of runners took the top two spots in their respected events. Adam Martinson (4:10.79) and Rithikh Prakash (4:12.44) in the mile and Kamran Murray (8:29.98) and Zachary Winnicki (8:31.47) in the 3000m.

Jeff Yang won the 200m with a time of 22.49 for the sprinters.

Stepan Matura placed first in the long jump with a mark of 6.91m with Ryan Antwi placing second with a 6.74m mark.

UP NEXT

The NCAA Indoor Championships are scheduled for March 14-15 in Virginia Beach. Vir. Then the outdoor season starts for Cornell at the USF Alumni Invitational on March 21-22.
