ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell women's tennis heads to Philadelphia, PA to compete in the ECAC Indoor Championships at Penn.
The Big Red will travel to Philadelphia, PA from Friday, Feb. 7 through Sunday, February 9 where it will compete in multiple matches each of the three days in hopes to earn the ECAC Indoor Championship title.
Match opponents and times will be announced later in the week leading up to the event.
LAST TIME OUT: CORNELL SHUTS OUT NIAGARA 7-0
ITHACA, N.Y. --- The Cornell women's tennis team moved to 1-1 on the season after defeating Niagara 7-0 on Friday night in shut-out fashion.
The night began with doubles play as Alexandra Savu and Andrea Martinez defeated Amelia Greenawalt and Saloni Tamang 6-0. Sage Loudon and Victoria Zhao followed that up with a 6-4 victory over Valeria Mora and Larisa Kotok and then Michelle Ryndin and Jenny Wong defeated Isabel Garcia and Gabriela Melo 7-5 to close out doubles play 3-0 for the Big Red and earn Cornell a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
Zhao began singles play with a win for the Big Red defeating Tamang 6-0, 6-0. Ryndin followed by defeating Melo 6-0, 6-2 to put Cornell up 3-0. The Big Red didn't slow down as they continued on to win the final four singles matches of the night; Martina Marica defeated Greenawalt 6-2, 6-0, Martinez defeated Garcia 6-1, 6-1, Tanya Fan defeated Kotok 7-5, 7-5 and Seychelle Balog finished off the evening by defeating Mora in a hard fought battle 6-4, 6-7(6), 10-3.
The Big Red are now 1-1 on the season and will take to the courts next in the ECAC Indoor Championships from Friday, Feb. 7 through Sunday, Feb. 9 in Philadelphia, PA.
