Box Score PHILADELPHIA, PA --- Cornell women's tennis defeated Dartmouth 4-3 at the ECAC Indoor Championships to earn fifth place in the tournament.
The Big Red came out to a hot start as they went 2-1 in doubles play. The Big Red began with a win from
Jenny Wong and Andrea Martinez as they defeated Sam Grossjean and Brooke Hess. Dartmouth came back when Michela Moore and Peyton Capuano defeated
Victoria Zhao and
Sage Loudon 6-2. The Big Red then earned the doubles point when
Alexandra Savu and
Michelle Ryndin defeated Elise Wong and Elizabeth Fahrmeier 7-6(5).
With Cornell up 1-0, singles play began. Lauren Han began the singles play by defeating
Emma Baker 6-4, 6-1. Andrea Martinez then defeated Hess 6-4, 6-3 to put the Big Red up 2-1. Caroline Lemcke defeated Wong 6-2, 7-5 to tie the match at 2.
Zhao then defeated Moore 6-4, 6-4 to put the Big Red up 3-2. Dartmouth came back with Grosjean defeating Loudon 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 to tie the game 3-3. Ryndin then defeated Capuano in three sets 7-5, 2-6, 7-6(5) to clinch the match for the Big Red 4-3.
Cornell women's tennis moves to 3-2 overall on the season with the win and will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 15 against St. Bonaventure.
