#7 Princeton Claims Trio of Victories, Retains Carnegie Cup

DERBY, Conn. — No. 7-ranked Princeton secured victories in the top three varsity races, highlighted by retaining the Carnegie Cup for a second consecutive season, on the Housatonic River on Saturday morning.

All races featured a moderate headwind building throughout the morning with a high-flow rate of around 4500 cubic feet per second (cfs).

Princeton managed to register victories within three seconds of Yale in the first three varsity races. The Tigers claimed the Carnegie Cup for a second straight year behind its 5:34.6 time, which was ahead of Yale (5:36.7) by 2.1 seconds. Cornell finished third with a 5:46.3 piece.

It is the first time Princeton has registered consecutive victories in the Carnegie Cup since posting three consecutive victories between 2004 and 2006.

Cornell finished second in the 5V8+ race with a 6:13.5 time, which was 4.5 seconds behind Yale, who also won the 4V8+ with a 5:51.7 running, defeating Princeton by 6.2 seconds (5:57.9).

A LOOK UPSTREAM
Cornell will conclude its regular-season slate next weekend when it travels to Philadelphia to compete against a trio of opponents. The Big Red will first race against No. 21-ranked Oregon State on Friday, May 2, before battling No. 8-ranked Penn and Holy Cross the following day. All races will take place on the Schuylkill River in suburban Philadelphia.
