FIeld Hockey Chosen Fifth In Ivy League Preseason Media Poll

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell field hockey team was chosen fifth when the Ivy League Preseason Media Poll was announced on Tuesday afternoon by the conference office. A top four finish of fourth or better would put the Big Red into the Ivy League Field Hockey Tournament in November for the second time in three seasons.

Cornell's 61 points put it fifth-place, marking the fourth-straight season that it was selected inside the conference's preseason top-five.

The Big Red closed the 2024 season with a 7-9 record (3-4 Ivy) and tied for fourth in the final Ivy League standings, though it missed out on making the conference tournament due to tiebreakers. Cornell went 4-1 down the stretch, and six of its nine losses came against top 20 opponents. Included was a 1-0, last-second loss to then-No. 1 Northwestern and one-goal losses to nationally-ranked foes UAlbany and Louisville.

Cornell opens the 2025 season against Colgate on Friday, Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. The Big Red has won eight consecutive games against the Raiders and holds a 30-20-3 edge in the all-time series.
