ITHACA, NY. -- The Cornell sailing team will tune up for ACC competition when it heads back on the road to compete at the MAISA Top 9 Combined Women's and Open Regattas at Kings Point and Fordham's Jesuit Open Fleet Race this coming week. Cornell will set sail on Saturday, Sept. 20 into Sunday, Sept. 21.
Last fall, Cornell hosted both Top 9 regattas, with the Big Red finishing as the runner-up in women's and capturing seventh at the open event. It's the team's first trip to New York City for the Jesuit Open since the fall of 2019 when it grabbed eighth, 13th and 16th at the two-day event.
Cornell is coming off a strong second weekend of competition highlighted by sophomore
Gilda Dondona capturing her second consecutive MAISA Faye Bennett Singlehanded championship. Dondona and
Ava Gustafson both qualified for nationals on Nov. 8-9 in Norfolk, Va.
The Big Red sailing team also opened its home schedule with the Susan Rogers '75 Memorial Women's and the Jack Boehringer '52 Memorial Open regattas, collecting five total top 10 team efforts along the way.
Cornell will be back in action the weekend of Sept. 27-28 when it heads to Navy for the Women's ACC Semifinals and Rhode Island to compete for the Moody Trophy.
