Record-Breaking Mile Earns Attiogbe Ivy League Weekly Honor

ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell junior Pierre Attiogbe was named Ivy League Men's Track and Field Co-Athlete of the Week following a standout performance at the Dr. Sander Scorcher, held Saturday at The Armory Track in New York City.

Attiogbe broke the Cornell indoor school record in the mile, clocking a time of 3 minutes, 55.57 seconds in the professional section of the meet. The mark earned him a fifth-place finish against a field of elite professional runners and currently ranks 10th in the NCAA this season.

The performance came in Attiogbe's season debut and surpassed one of the most challenging records in Cornell's track and field history. In addition to the new school record, Attiogbe continues to hold the program's freshman mile record, which he set on Jan. 27, 2024.

"Pierre already held our indoor 3,000-meter school record, and now he has taken down one of the most difficult records in our program with his mile performance," said Adrian Durant, the George Heekin '29 Head Coach of Men's Track and Field. "To do that in a season debut and in a field full of professionals speaks volumes about both his talent and his competitiveness. He's fearless, he shows up when it matters, and we're excited to see how much more he has in him as the season moves forward."

Attiogbe's honor marks the latest accolade in what has been a record-setting collegiate career for the junior middle-distance runner.
