Sailing Eyes Spot At Open Nationals When It Competes For America Trophy

| By:
ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell sailing team will attempt to quaify for Open Fleet Race Nationals when it heads to St. Mary's (Md.) to compete for the America Trophy. The two-day regatta serves as the MAISA open conference championship, with the top two team finishers earning automatic spots at nationals.

The Big Red earned a bid to the women's team racing nationals for the third consecutive year with a first-place finish at the MAISA Women's Team Racing Championship this past weekend with three sailors earning conference honors. Senior Sophia Devling was named the MAISA Women's Sailor of the Year and was a first-team all-conference pick alongside junior Winborne Majette and sophomore Gilda Dondona.

Cornell will be among 18 teams competing and will be in search of its second straight appearance at nationals in Open sailing. Cornell posted its best-ever finish in program history in 2025 when it took second in a regatta hosted by the Big Red on Cayuga Lake.
