BOSTON, Mass. -- The Cornell sailing team placed seventh of 12 teams at the Owen Trophy, hosted by Boston University, in a weekend marked by heavy breeze on Saturday and fading conditions on Sunday on the Charles River. The Big Red totaled 108 points across both divisions, competing in a fleet that saw Boston University and Tufts finish atop the standings.
In A Division, freshman skipper Adrianna D'Agati and senior crew Kate Constan finished eighth with 62 points, highlighted by a fourth-place finish in Race 7. In B Division, Leopold Faerber, along with crews Vera Jacobson and Emil Damji, placed fifth with 46 points, posting a pair of top-three finishes. Cornell battled through challenging conditions that included winds in the teens and gusts into the 20s on Saturday before light air limited racing Sunday, with just two B division races completed before competition was called.
In addition, the Big Red hosted the Prosser Trophy MAISA Open Team Race Championship on Cayuga Lake, with Navy outlasting Georgetown on tiebreakers after both teams finished 13-1.
The Big Red will sail at the MAISA Women's Team Race Championship this coming week in Georgetown, while another team will head to Navy to race in the Truxtun Umstead Open Fleet Race.
