ITHACA, N.Y. — Syracuse swept the Goes Trophy and Stagg Cup on Saturday morning, winning all four races against Cornell and Navy on Cayuga Inlet under favorable conditions — a moderate quartering tailwind and flat water throughout.
The Orange claimed the Goes Trophy by virtue of its victory in the 1V8+ and secured the Stagg Cup on total team points, extending its winning streak in both trophies. Syracuse has now won six consecutive Goes Trophy races and seven straight Stagg Cups.
Racing opened with the 3V8+, where Syracuse edged Cornell by under four seconds. The 1V8+ followed with Syracuse again besting the Big Red, which finished as a runner-up in the Goes Trophy race for the fourth time in the last five runnings. Syracuse's 2V8+ completed a sweep of the top three events, with Cornell finishing second for the third straight year.
Cornell's closest result came in the final race of the day, where the Big Red's 4V8+ finished third behind Syracuse and Navy by less than a second.
