| By:
ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell junior attackman Willem Firth has been named a finalist for the 2026 Tewaaraton Award, the Tewaaraton Foundation announced Tuesday. The award, presented by Stifel and founded in 2001, annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse players in the United States.

Firth is one of five finalists for the men's award, joining Owen Duffy (North Carolina), Shawn Lyght (Notre Dame), Joey Spallina (Syracuse), and Nate Kabiri (Princeton). The 2026 Tewaaraton Award recipients will be announced May 28 at the Tewaaraton Ceremony in Washington, D.C.

The Ottawa, Ontario, native has been among the most dominant offensive players in the country this season, ranking top-5 in both points and goals per game this season. Through 15 games, Firth has recorded 51 goals, 29 assists and 80 points while shooting at a .405 clip. He has scored in every game this season, recording multiple goals in 13 of 15 contests. He has tallied five or more points six times and has been the driving force behind Cornell's run to a 11-4 record, its fifth-consecutive Ivy League Championship, and 32nd bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Ivy League Attackman of the Year, Firth has been at his best in the program's most important moments, recording the game-winning goal five times and turning in a season-best six goals in an eight-point performance in the Ivy League Tournament semifinal win over Harvard on May 1. He ranks second nationally and first in the Ivy League in points per game at 5.33 and fourth nationally and first in the conference in goals per game at 3.40.

The junior Hard Hat carrier has accumulated 105 goals, 58 assists and 163 career points in three seasons at Cornell, ranking among the program's all-time leaders in career points and career man-up goals. He was named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List earlier this season before earning finalist recognition Tuesday.

Cornell hosts Johns Hopkins in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, May 9 at 5 p.m. on ESPNU at Schoellkopf Field.
