ITHACA, N.Y.—
The Big Red women's hockey team out shot Robert Morris 38-20, but the Colonials' goaltender led her team to a 2-1 win over Cornell on Saturday afternoon. The loss was the Big Red's first of the season to move to 2-1, while Robert Morris improves to 4-4. Sophomore Hayley Hughes netted the Big Red's goal, and junior Jenny Niesluchowski made 18 saves in net for Cornell.

Cornell dominated play early in the first period splattering the Colonials' netminder Brianna McLaughlin with shots. Midway through the period, freshman Chelsea Karpenko had the puck below the left point and with a quick pass to Melanie Jue on the left side of the net, the duo set up Hughes' goal giving the forward a wide open net on the right side.

At 13:21 of the first, Robert Morris' Kristen Miles won the faceoff in the Big Red's zone and Brianna Delaney scored off the pass to tie the game.

Delaney scored her second goal of the game that proved to be the game-winner at 4:12 of the second period. Miles and Samantha Ullrich assisted on the goal.

Cornell pulled Niesluchowski at 18:33 of the third period in favor of an extra attacker. Robert Morris took two penalties with time winding off the clock, but the Big Red could not get the puck past McLaughlin.

Robert Morris was 1-4 on the power play, while Cornell was 0-5.

The Big Red will be at home again next weekend as it opens its ECAC Hockey season playing host to Quinnipiac and Princeton.
