ITHACA, N.Y.—
With less than eight seconds left in overtime, sophomore Karlee Overguard grabbed her own rebound to score the game-winning goal and send the Big Red past Brown, 3-2. Sophomore Rebecca Johnston netted two goals for Cornell as the Big Red improved to 3-2-1 overall and 1-1-1 ECAC Hockey. Sophomore Kayla Strong made 34 saves in net to drop Brown to 1-5-1 (1-4 ECAC Hockey) for season.

The Big Red and the Bears were scoreless in the first period, but Brown's Andrea Hunter made the most of a power play opportunity in the second period to put her team up by one. Jenny Cedorchuk took a shot that rebounded just outside the crease. With a gamut of players in front of the net, Hunter found the puck and pushed it past Strong at 2:02 of the second period.

Johnston tied the game up at 1-1 at 9:50 of the second in a similar fashion, getting the puck past Brown netminder Nicole Stock on a Big Red power play. Karlee Overguard assisted on the goal.

A little over a minute into the third, freshman Catherine White fed Johnston the puck from the neutral zone. The Big Red forward faked the Bears' defenders and charging straight at the goal, Johnston slid the puck through Stock's legs to give Cornell its first lead of the game.

The Big Red was plagued by penalties midway through the third, giving Brown a three-on-five advantage. Strong was spectacular in net making difficult saves, but a rebound off a shot by Paige Pyett deflected behind the Cornell net right to Hunter who buried it into the left side the goal to tie the game. The Big Red pelted Stock with shots late in the third, but the two teams ended regulation tied at 2-2.

Cornell controlled play early in overtime, but a penalty at 1:32 gave Brown a man advantage. The Big Red penalty killing unit wore off the two minutes to keep the game deadlocked.

With a little over 10 seconds left in the game, Karlee Overguard won the face-off in the neutral zone and charged into Bears' zone. With her linemates at her side, Overguard let off a huge shot at Stock and grabbed her own rebound to burry the game-winner up over the goaltender's shoulder.

With her 34 saves, Strong moves to 2-0-1 for the season. Stock made 29 saves in the loss. Cornell was 1-5 on the power play and Brown was 2-9.

Cornell will continue ECAC Hockey home action on Saturday afternoon, playing host to Yale. The puck will drop at 3 p.m. in Lynah Rink.
