ITHACA, N.Y.—
With two goals and an assist, junior Melanie Jue led the Big Red women's hockey team in a 3-0 shut out over Union on Friday night. Junior Jenny Niesluchowski notched her first shut out of the season with 19 saves in net for Cornell. Sophomore Rebecca Johnston also scored for the Big Red to help Cornell improve to 8-8-2 overall and 4-5-2 in ECAC Hockey, while Union fell to 2-18-3 overall and 0-10-1 in league action.

The Big Red and the Dutchwomen were scoreless after the first period. Cornell outshot Union 13-6 in the first.

Cornell had its first power play opportunity midway through the second period. Junior Liz Zorn passed the puck to Catherine White who was on the left side of Union's net. White quickly passed to Jue on the right side of the crease before goaltender Lundy Day had time to respond, and Jue one-timed the puck into the net to put the Big Red up 1-0.

At 13:09 of the second period, Karlee Overguard and Chelsea Karpenko had the puck behind the Union goal. Overguard passed the puck to Jue at the right point and the Big Red defenseman sent a huge slap shot sailing through traffic straight into the Union goal.

The Dutchwomen took an interference penalty less than eight seconds later to put the Big Red on the power play. Jue and sophomore Sam Wauer passed the puck behind the Cornell net onto the stick of Johnston. Johnston skated the length of the ice past the Union defenders and slid the puck through Day's legs to give Cornell a 3-0 advantage.

The Big Red outshot Union 50-19 for the night. Cornell was 2-3 on the power-play while Union was 0-5. Niesluchowski's shutout was the fourth of her career.

The Big Red will be back in action Saturday afternoon for a 4 p.m. game against Rensselaer in Lynah Rink.
