No. 3 Penn Too Much For Women's Lax, 14-2

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Defending national runner-up Penn extended its Ivy League win streak to 17 games with a dominant first half in a 14-2 victory over Cornell on Saturday afternoon at Franklin Field. The undefeated Quakers improved to 6-2 (2-0 Ivy), while the Big Red dropped its second straight to fall to 5-2 (1-1 Ivy).

Penn held advantages in every category, with Ali DeLuca leading the team with four goals and an assist, while both Emma Spiro and Giulia Giordano scored twice. The Quakers led 10-0 at the half and 12-0 overall before Cornell finally got on the board 41:17 into the contest. Kate Dewey and Jessica Wiegand each scored goals, while Jessi Steinberg had an assist. Both goalkeepers saw action, with junior Kristen Reese allowing 10 goals with two saves in the first 30 minutes, while freshman Kyla Dambach made four stops and allowed four scores in the second half.

Penn held advantages in shots (25-12), ground balls (17-8), draw controls (11-7) and free-position goals (3-1). Goalkeepers Emily Szelest and Emily Leitner split time i nthe cage, with Szelest stopping the only two shots she saw to pick up the win , and Leitner allowing two goals and stopping three shots in relief. The two goals were the fewest scored by a Big Red team since dropping a 9-2 contest to Orinceton during the 2003 campaign.

Cornell will attempt to bounce back when it meets Princeton on Saturday, March 28 at 3 p.m. at Schoellkopf Field.
