HANOVER, N.H.—The Cornell softball team split Ivy League action at Dartmouth on Sunday afternoon. The Big Red lost the first game in the bottom of the 10th inning, 7-5, but Cornell bounced back to capture a 10-2 six-inning victory in game two. Cornell improves to 27-7 overall and 6-2 in the Ivy League.
In game one, senior Jessy Berkey was 2-for-5 with two RBI, while freshman Shannon Crane was 2-for-5 with one RBI. Junior Devon March had two RBI, while Vanessa Leonhard went 2-for-4 at the plate. Elizabeth Dalrymple pitched for the Big Red striking out nine batters.
The Big Red and Dartmouth were tied 5-5 after seven innings. Dartmouth won the game in the bottom of the 10th with a two-run homer with one out.
In game two, Menaker and March were both 3-for-4 at the plate and March had two RBI. Sophomore Ali Tomlinson was 2-for-4 with three RBI, and she earned the win, striking out two batters. The Big Red totaled 14 hits, while Dartmouth had five.
For Dartmouth, Parker was 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI. Barker took the loss, allowing seven runs.
In the top of the first inning, Intihar walked and advanced to third when March singled. The Big Red scored the first run of the game when Intihar scored on a passed ball.
In the bottom of the inning, Nikki Yee singled up the middle for Dartmouth. Khalil walked and Parker drove them both home with a double.
In the second inning, Risica singled through the right side before Tomlinson took the lead for the Big Red with a home run over the left field fence.
Menaker led off the third inning with a solo home run. Garvey was hit by a pitch, and advanced to second with a single by Berkey. Risica advanced the runners when she grounded out. Tomlinson followed with a single to drive in Garvey, and Leonhard grounded out to drive in Berkey.
In the top of the fourth, Intihar walked and March singled. Menaker hit a single of her own to load the bases. Garvey hit a sac fly to drive in another run for Cornell.
Intihar singled up the middle to open the sixth inning and March followed with a home run to put Cornell up, 9-2. Menaker singled and advanced to second with a single by Garvey. Berkey singled up the middle to drive in Menaker to increase the Big Red's lead to 10-2.
The Big Red held Dartmouth scoreless in the bottom of the inning to end the game with a 10-2 victory.
The Big Red will play at doubleheader at St. Bonaventure on Tuesday afternoon.
