FOXBORO, Mass. -- Cornell showed the heart of a champion, but it was defending national champion Syracuse who used its experience to score the final four goals to rally for a 10-9 overtime victory over the Big Red on Monday afternoon in the Division I national championship game at Gillette Stadium. Kenny Nims scored with 4.5 seconds to play in regulation to tie the score, then Cody Jamieson buried the game winner with 2:40 showing on the clock in the extra session to secure the program's 10th national title.

Senior All-Americans John Glynn (three goals, two assists) and Max Seibald (two goals) led the way for the Big Red, while classmate Jake Myers had a fantastic day in goal with 10 saves in the loss. Glynn added 10 face-off wins and nine ground balls to the cause, while both Ryan Hurley (one goal, two assists) and Rob Pannell (one goal, one assist) had multi-goal days. All-American defenseman Matt Moyer posted a pair of caused turnovers. The Big Red held advantages in shots (39-33), ground balls (30-28).

Jamieson ended the day with two goals and an assist, including the game-winner. Stephen Keogh scored twice, while Dan Hardy (goal, two assists) and Josh Amidon (goal, two assists) each had three points. Matt Abbott was credited with two assists, while John Galloway had 10 saves between the pipes to lead the defense, Joel White had six ground balls and a game-high three caused turnovers.

Myers' opened the game with a save on SU's first possession and after temporarily turning the ball back over to the Orange, the senior goalie came way out of the cage and checked the ball away to return the ball to the Big Red. Glynn rewarded his goalie's efforts with a great individual effort goal as he dodged to the left of the cage, spun back to center and beat Galloway up high from 10 yards out to make it a 1-0 game at the 11:24 mark.

SU's next possession ended when an errant shot was backed up by Myers and after a patient offensive possession, Glynn beat his man and nailed a shot on the run from point-blank range to make it a 2-0 game just under four minutes later. 

Chris Daniello got the Orange on the board with 5:46 to play when he picked up a rebound off a brilliant Myers save and connected on the put-back. 

Cornell won the restart, but saw its time with the ball end with a Galloway save, and SU tied the game with a goal by Niewieroski at the 2:44 mark. 

A pair of turnovers after the restart gave the Big Red the ball back with one-minute to play in the quarter and with just 21 ticks showing on the clock, Glynn found Hurley on the doorstep to give Cornell the 3-2 lead heading into the first intermission. 

Keogh knotted the game at 3-3 just 1:46 into the second quarter with a goal in transition, Romero gave the lead back to the Big Red with a rocket of a shot from 15 yards out that beat Galloway top-shelf. Glynn contributed on that goal as well, registering the assist. 

Just over one-minute later, Perritt knotted the game at 4-4, but Cornell took the lead once again when Pannell took the ball from behind the cage, rolled around the right side of the net and wrapped a shot past Galloway. 

A penalty on the ensuing face-off gave the Big Red a one-minute man-up opportunity and Cornell took advantage when Seibald took a pass from Pannell and ripped a shot from 12 yards out to make it a 6-4 game with 3:55 to play in the quarter. 

With just under two minutes to play in the half, Syracuse held possession and called a time out, but the Cornell defense forced another turnover and let the offense go to work at the 1:26 mark. Some tough Orange defense led to a scrum in front of the net and although the Big Red came up with the ball, the shot went wide and Galloway backed it up.

A Cornell penalty gave SU a 30-second opportunity to close the quarter on, but a brilliant save by Myers ended the threat and sent the Big Red into halftime with the slim 6-4 lead. 

The Big Red finished killing off the penalty at the start of the third quarter when Seibald ran up the sideline, through a  double-team, and ran over an Orange player to carry the ball into the offensive end. A Galloway save ended the Cornell threat, but after a pair of turnovers, Cornell earned a 30-second man-up opportunity. Once again, Galloway was up to the task, making his second point-blank save in less than two minutes, and after a pair of turnovers gave the ball back to the Orange, Josh Amidon took advantage of a defensive miscue to make it a 6-5 game with 8:24 to play in the third quarter. 

Cornell won the restart and Seibald drew a 30-second man-up penalty on SU for holding. The Orange killed the penalty, but Hurley found Glynn rolling to the cage and Glynn gave the Big Red the 7-5 lead. 

After winning the face-off, a long Cornell possession ended with a turnover at the top of the box, but an errant shot was backed up by Matt Moyer and the Big Red got the ball back with 2:37 to play in the quarter. With less than a minute to play, Glynn got a shot on cage, but it was saved by Galloway and the Orange headed the other direction. SU's last second shot went wide and Cornell took the two-goal lead into the final break.

Syracuse wasted little time at the start of the fourth quarter to make it a 7-6 game as Hardy scored on the doorstep at the 13:51 mark. 

After the potential game-tying goal was called off for a crease violation, the Big Red got the ball back and drew a 30-second penalty on the Orange. SU killed the Cornell chance, but the Big Red held possession thanks to another 30-second penalty. Cornell converted its sixth-opportunity of the game when Seibald took a pass from Hurley and beat Galloway up high to make it an 8-6 game with 7:20 to play. Less than three minutes later, Roy Lang closed out the scoring with his ninth tally of the year to make it 9-6 with 5:31 to play. It would be the last time Cornell would get on the scoreboard.

The Orange rally started innocently enough when Keogh's 49th goal of the year cut the deficit to 9-7 with 3:37 left. Jamieson set up the heroics by cutting the lead to one 51 seconds later to make it 9-8. Syracuse was able to set up its last possession by forcing a turnover on the ride using pressure, and Nims collected a pass from Matt Abbott and buried it with 4.5 seconds left to knot the contest. With the Syracuse fans on their feet with an electric crowd of 41,935 fans in attendance, Cornell won the ensuing face-off, but its desperation shot was short and late as both teams huddled for overtime.

Cornell won the opening face-off to start the sudden death period, but a turnover led to Syracuse and Jamieson's heroics.
