With the score knotted at 14-14 in game two, Penn ran off five straight points (including three consecutive kills from Lauren Martin) to put some distance between the teams. Cornell rallied to within two points at 21-19, but couldn't come all the way back as the Quakers eventually claimed a 25-21 victory.
Looking to finish off the home team quickly, the Quakers jumped out to a 4-1 edge in the third set and extended it to 13-3 on consecutive kills and a block to force a Cornell timeout. Penn kept pushing for points, eventually taking a lead of as many as 13 (20-7). After a lengthy delay due to a lineup discrepancy, Cornell scored eight of the next 10 points, but the hole was too deep and Penn finished off the home team 25-17.
Cornell returns to action tomorrow at 5 p.m. when it plays host to Ivy unbeaten Princeton at Newman Arena.
