ITHACA, N.Y. -- Mike Devin and Joe Devin each scored a goal, but the Cornell men's hockey team dropped a 4-2 contest to fifth-ranked Yale on Friday night at Lynah Rink. The Big Red falls to 2-5 overall and 2-3 in ECAC Hockey action, while Yale moves to 6-1 on the season and 3-0 in league action.

Patrick Kennedy and Greg Miller both added an assist for the Big Red, which got both of its goals on the power play on the evening in going 2-for-5 with the man advantage. Mike Garman made 26 saves in the loss for the Big Red.

For Yale, Chad Ziegler and Broc Little both had a goal and an assist, while Jesse Root and Brendan Mason chipped in a goal apiece. Denny Kearney and Kevin Peel both had an assist on the night for the Bulldogs. Ryan Rondeau made 15 saves in the victory for Yale, who went 1-for-5 on the power play.

Cornell took the 1-0 lead in the first period at the 16:34 mark of the period when Mike Devin collected a puck at the point that was sent out by a Yale defenseman. Devin ripped a wrist shot that found its way through traffic and beat Rondeau inside the near post as Cornell took a lead into the first intermission, out-shooting the Bulldogs by an 8-5 margin in the first period.

The momentum began to swing in the second period, first with Yale tying the goal on Jesse Root's goal at the 2:50 mark of the period, picking up a loose puck in between the circles in the Cornell end and beating Garman to knot the game at one. 

Cornell retook the lead at the 5:30 mark of the second period when, with Cornell on a power play, Miller sent the puck back to the point for Kennedy. Kennedy then wristed a shot toward the goal that glanced off the shin pad of Joe Devin and went through Rondeau's legs to give Cornell a 2-1 lead. 

That lead lasted just over five minutes when Little tied the score, breaking in and beating Garman with the tying goal. Cornell then caught a bad break when, after killing off a 5-on-3, Sean Collins had a breakaway, slipping the puck underneath Rondeau as he was sliding backward. Rondeau's momentum carried him into the goal, but the referees ruled that the whistle had blown to stop play before the puck went into the goal, as the game remained tied at two after two periods.

Ziegler then scored the game-winner 2:52 into the third period, capitalizing on Yale's fifth power play of the night. Mason added an empty-net goal with 31 seconds to play to cap the scoring in the contest.

Cornell returns to action on Saturday, playing host to Brown, a 5-2 winner at Colgate on Friday, on Saturday evening at Lynah Rink. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
