Flynn's 25 Points Not Enough As Women's Hoops Falls To Harvard

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Taylor Flynn had a game-high 25 points, but the Cornell women's basketball team fell to Harvard, 74-53, on Friday night at Newman Arena in Ithaca, N.Y. Cornell falls to 5-17 on the year and 1-8 in Ivy League play, while Harvard improves to 15-7 on the season and 6-2 in league play.

Flynn was the only scorer in double figures for the Big Red on the night. Lauren Benson was second with seven points, with Allie Fedorowicz and Spencer Lane both adding five points. Clare Fitzpatrick had a team-high seven rebounds to go along with a pair of points.

For Harvard, Victoria Lippert had 20 points and 10 rebounds, with Emma Markley adding 10 points and eight boards. Jackie Alemany nearly had a double-double of her own with nine points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

Harvard jumped out to an early lead, scoring the game's first 13 points, and the Crimson would never trail. Cornell was held scoreless for the first 7:16 before Kristina Danielak put back a miss off a three-pointer by Lauren Benson. Cornell would only get to within nine points in the first half after that, with Benson nailing a three-pointer with 7:12 to play to cut the deficit to 26-17, but Harvard answered with a 9-2 run over the next three minutes to extend the lead to 35-19.

After leading 40-28 at the break, Harvard extended its lead to 17 points, 58-41, with 11:06 to play in the second half, but Cornell began to chip away at the deficit. The Big Red went on an 8-0 run over the next three and a half minutes to cut the score to 58-49, but Harvard responded with a 9-0 run of its own to push the lead back up to 18, 67-49, with 4:39 to play.

Cornell shot 31 percent from the floor for the game and 27.3 percent from three-point range, while Harvard was hitting on 46.9 percent of its field goal attempts and 38.5 percent of its three-pointers.

Cornell returns to action when it faces Dartmouth in a 7 p.m. contest on Saturday night at Newman Arena.
