ITHACA, N.Y. – Fresh of its first national ranking since 1959, No. 25 Cornell never trailed in posting a 90-71 victory over Yale at Newman Arena on Friday night, logging its seventh-straight victory. Senior Jon Jaques paced four Big Red scorers in double figures with 17 points as the Big Red improved to 5-0 in the Ivy League and 19-3 overall. Yale fell to 8-14 (2-3 Ivy) with the loss.

It was a balanced effort in the scoring column as Cornell got 15 points apiece from senior forward Ryan Wittman, senior center Jeff Foote, and senior guard Louis Dale. Foote also grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds and notched a pair of blocks, while Dale finished with four assists. Wittman and Jaques each converted four 3-pointers in the game as the Big Red connected on 13 as a team.

Alex Tyler had a high-energy eight points, five rebounds and three assists in 18 efficient minutes, posting four of the squad's 16 offensive boards. Chris Wroblewski added nine points, three assists, three rebounds and two steals in a solid all-around floor effort.

Cornell streaked to a 5-0 lead less than 90 seconds into the game on a layup by Jaques and a 3-pointer by Wittman. Cornell shot 53 percent (18-for-34) in the first half, including an 8-for-15 effort from the 3-point line in building a 46-34 at the break. After trailing by as many as 14 points, the Bulldogs went on a 7-2 run to pull within four at 35-31 with 2:58 to go in the opening stanza before Cornell took a 12-point lead into the locker room.

The second half was more of the same for the Big Red, who kept the Bulldogs at bay. Foote opened the scoring with a layup and Cornell maintained a double digit lead throughout the rest of the game. Yale (8-14, 2-3) was led by Alex Zampier with 11 points, but the Ivy League's leading scorer entering the game was held to 2-of-10 shooting from the floor.

Cornell returns to action Saturday night with a home game against Brown at 7 p.m.
