ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell women's basketball team saw a strong first half performance go to waste as Brown stormed out to a 15-point lead midway through the second half and then held on for the 74-58 victory at Newman Arena. The Big Red is back in action tomorrow night in its final game of the season, as it plays host to Yale at 7 p.m.

Cornell (7-19, 2-11) got solid performances from its three seniors – Lauren Benson, Allie Fedorowicz and Virginia McMunigal – as they play in the final series of their careers. Fedorowicz led the home team with 20 points, while McMunigal chipped in 12 points, as both hit four 3-pointers on the night. Benson filled out the stat line with nine points, six assists, four rebounds and one steal. Sophomore Allie Munson grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, while freshman Clare Fitzpatrick pulled down seven boards, to help Cornell outrebound the Bears, 38-30.

Brown (8-19, 5-8) was led by Lindsay Nickel, who connected on 8-of-12 from the floor for a game-high 23 points, while Aileen Daniels hit 7-of-9 shots to add 22 points. Daniels also had a team-high six rebounds to go along with three assists.

The Bears shot a blazing 51.9 percent from the floor and 38.5 percent from 3-point range, while Cornell connected on just 33.9 percent overall and 37.5 percent from beyond the arc. Brown also made 15-of-16 free throws on the night, while the Big Red made just 11-of-21 attempts from the charity stripe.

Cornell got out to a great start early in the game, taking a 16-10 lead off a layup from Clare Fitzpatrick at the 12:31 mark. A 3-pointer by Nickel capped a 7-0 scoring run that gave Brown a one-point lead, but Fedorowicz put the Big Red back on top with a pair of made free throws. The Bears registered five straight points to regain the lead, eventually stretching its advantage to eight points late in the half before a 3-pointer by McMunigal with six seconds to play sent the teams into the locker room with Brown leading, 35-30.

An offensive putback by Munson in the opening moments for the second half made it a three-point game, but Brown responded with 12 unanswered points over the next six minutes to take a commanding 47-32 lead at the 12:38 mark.

The Bears led by double-digits the rest of the way, taking the 74-58 victory.
