ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell scored the game's final three goals to snap a 22-game losing streak to Princeton, knocking off the nation's 17th-ranked team with an 11-8 victory over the Tigers on Saturday afternoon at Princeton Stadium. The Big Red snapped a four-game losing streak and evened the team's Ivy record at 2-2 with the win while improving to 3-6 overall. The Tigers fell to 4-6 (2-1 Ivy) with the loss.

The victory was just the second all-time at Princeton (2-14) and was the first of any kind against the perennial national power since 1988, an 8-2 Big Red victory in Ithaca. It was the first win over the Tigers under head coach Jenny Graap '86, who ranks second on the school's career victories list.

Shannon McHugh scored the go-ahead goal with 14:51 remaining and the Big Red defense did the rest, holding the home team scoreless in the final 18:53 and to just one goal in the final 25 minutes. Julie Klatzkin had her first career hat trick for the Big Red, including icing the game with the final two scores, and Jessi Steinberg added three goals and an assist and Libby Johnson was credited with two goals and two helpers. Katie Kirk rounded out the offense with a pair of scores.

Defensively, Kate Ivory won seven ground balls and caused three turnovers for Cornell in front of Kyla Dambach, who made a career-best 12 saves in picking up the win. She stopped six of the nine shots that got through to her in the second 30 minutes of action.

Princeton got three goals from Kristin Morrison, while Maisie Devine scored twice.  Erin Tochihara made seven saves in the cage. The Tigers held a 27-22 advantage in shots and dominated the draw circle (13-7) in the loss.

The Big Red found out early it would have a chance to play with the Tigers, going up 2-0 less than seven minutes in on goals by Johnson and Kirk, but the home team fought back to tie it at 2-2, then again at 3-3, 4-4 and 5-5 in the first half. Princeton scored on a free-position shot with one second to play in the first half to knot the game and seemingly give momentum to the Tigers heading into the locker room.

Princeton converted on the momentum to take its first lead at 6-5 with just 2:34 off the clock in the second half, but the Big Red quickly tied it up less than two minutes later. A 7-6 Princeton lead was also answered with a Steinberg score to tie the game, then a Kirk free-position score 37 seconds later to regain the lead at 8-7.

Princeton would tie the game at 8-8 on a score by Lizzy Drumm with 18:53 left, but would get no closer. McHugh's score four minutes later triggered the final 3-0 Cornell run as the visitors celebrated on the field after breaking the Princeton hex. Dambach made four saves during the final run to not allow Princeton to get back in the game.

Cornell will attempt to make it two wins in a row over ranked Ivy opponents when it meets Dartmouth on Saturday, April 10 at noon at Schoellkopf Field.
