ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell heavyweight rowing team will travel to Washington, D.C, this weekend to take part in the 23rd annual George Washington Invitational Regatta on the Potomac River race course. It is the second straight year that the Big Red will participate in the Regatta and Cornell will face Gonzaga on Friday morning, George Washington on Saturday morning and Georgetown on Saturday afternoon.

REGATTA INFORMATION: For the fourth straight year, each team will compete in three dual or trial races--one on Friday afternoon, and two on Saturday. The 2,000-meter, buoyed course begins near the Spout Run area of the Potomac River with the finish line at Washington Harbour in Georgetown. Racing begins at 1:30 p.m. on Friday and resumes at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. An awards ceremony will follow the competition Saturday at approximately 5:15 p.m. at Washington Harbour near the 3000 block of K St., NW. GW Rowing is headquartered at Thompson Boat Center near the intersection of Rock Creek Parkway and Virginia Avenue, NW.

THE SERIES VS. GONZAGA: The Big Red defeated Gonzaga last season at the George Washington Invitational Regatta, the first ever meeting between the two heavyweight programs.

THE SERIES VS. GEORGE WASHINGTON: Cornell owns a 1-0 record vs. George Washington in head-to-head competition, defeating the Colonials in 2007.

THE SERIES VS. GEORGETOWN: The Big Red has dominated the series with Georgetown, posting an 11-1 record vs. the Hoyas in head-to-head racing. After falling in the first ever meeting in 1996, Cornell has won the last 11 races.
