Women's Hockey Runs Win Streak To 16 With 5-0 Win At Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Five different players scored a goal as the Cornell women's hockey team remained undefeated in ECAC Hockey action at 14-0 and ran its winning streak to 16 games with a 5-0 win at Colgate on Saturday afternoon. Hayley Hughes' first goal at the 5:16 mark of the first period stood as the game-winner in Saturday's contest.

Chelsea Karpenko, Rebecca Johnston, Amber Overguard and Brianne Jenner each added a goal for the Big Red, while Lauriane Rougeau had a pair of assists. Johnston, Catherine White, Laura Fortino, Olivia Cook, Alyssa Gagliardi and Karlee Overguard each had one assist on the night for the Big Red. Lauren Slebodnick had 14 saves in her fourth shutout of the season.

Cornell finished the night 2-for-6 on the power play, while holding the Raiders off the scoreboard in seven power-play chances. Colgate goaltender Kimberly Sass made 33 stops in taking the loss for the Raiders.

Cornell led 2-0 after one period behind the tallies from Hughes and Karpenko, with the latter tally coming with 1:26 to play in the period. In the second, Johnston scored a short-handed goal at the 14:19 mark of the period to give the Big Red a 3-0 lead after two periods. Overguard and Jenner then added extra tallies in the third, with Overguard's coming at the 4:07 mark of the period and Jenner's at the 16:27 mark.

The Big Red returns to action next Friday, playing host to Union in a 7 p.m. contest at Lynah Rink.
