ITHACA, N.Y. -- Senior Katie Wilson made nine saves for her first career shutout as the Cornell women's hockey team skated past Union by an 8-0 score on Friday night at Lynah Rink. The win was the Big Red's 17th straight and lifted Cornell to 21-1 on the year and 15-0 in ECAC Hockey action.

Rebecca Johnston scored three goals, while Laura Fortino had five assists and Brianne Jenner had four. Hayley Hughes, Kendice Ogilvie, Lauriane Rougeau and Chelsea Karpenko each added one goal, with Alyssa Gagliardi, Catherine White, Karlee Overguard, and Karpenko tallying an assist each. The Big Red finished the night 1-for-3 on the power play.

Union got 12 saves from starting netminder Kate Gallagher, who worked the first 30:55 of the contest, allowing six goals. Alana Marcinko came on in relief midway through the second period, stopping 15 of the 17 shots she faced as the Dutchwomen fell to 1-23-3, 0-13-2 in league play. Union had just one power play on the night in the third period.

Cornell got on the board first at the 3:29 mark of the first period when Gagliardi's shot from the point glanced off the leg of Johnston and slipped into the goal. Hughes made the score 2-0 just under a minute later when White's wraparound chance landed on the stick of the senior, who batted the puck into the net as Cornell took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

In the second, the Big Red wasted no time adding to the margin as Ogilvie scored at 2:28 of the period. Johnston scored at 5:34 of the period and completed her hat trick at the 7:37 mark of the period, finishing off an assist from Fortino. Rougeau's goal, a wrist shot from the high slot that banged in off the corner posts at 10:55 of the period chased Gallagher from the match, and Karpenko and Campbell both tallied against Marcinko.

Wilson made four of her saves in the third period to preserve the shutout, the first in the career of the senior from Uxbridge, Ontario.

The Big Red returns to action on Saturday, taking on Rensselaer in a 4 p.m. contest at Lynah Rink.
