HANOVER, N.H. -- The #2/2 Cornell women's hockey team lost for just the second time this season, falling to #10/10 Dartmouth in a 4-2 contest at Thompson Arena in Hanover, N.H., on Friday night. The defeat is just the first since Nov. 2 for the Big Red, and the first loss in regulation since Jan. 30, 2010.
Karlee Overguard and
Hayley Hughes scored goals for the Big Red (25-2-1, 19-1-1 ECAC Hockey), with
Amanda Young and
Catherine White both adding assists on the evening.
Lauren Slebodnick stopped 29 shots in taking the loss, with the Big Red going scoreless in five power-play chances.
For Dartmouth (18-9-0, 14-7-0 ECAC Hockey), Kelly Foley had a pair of goals, while Amanda Trunzo picked up three assists. Camille Dumais had a goal and two assists, while Geneva Kliman scored once, with Sally Komarek, Sasha Nanji both adding an assist. Lindsay Holdcroft made 33 saves in picking up the win for the Big Green.
After going 20 games of the ECAC Hockey regular season without having allowed a power-play goal, the Cornell women's hockey team finally surrendered its first on Friday night, then allowed two more as Dartmouth finished the night 3-for-6 with the power play. Foley scored a pair of power-play markers in the first period, then Kliman added another in the second before Dumais made the score 4-0 late in the second period.
Karlee Overguard got Cornell on the scoreboard at the 6:51 mark of the third period, and Hughes cut the deficit in half at the 14:10 mark, but that would be as close as Cornell would get as the Big Green secured the upset victory.
Cornell closes out the regular season on Saturday, taking on Harvard in a 4 p.m. contest at the Bright Hockey Center in Cambridge, Mass.
