Cornell got on the board first at the 5:29 mark of the first period, with
Joe Devin working a give-and-go around the St. Lawrence goal with Miller before tapping the puck into the net, giving the Big Red the 1-0 lead at the end of one. The Saints would respond with a power-play tally at the 18:09 mark of the second period, with Flanagan knotting the score at one heading into the third period.
A high-sticking penalty at the end of the second, coupled with an earlier major penalty on
Dan Nicholls, gave St. Lawrence a 5-on-3 to open up the third, and the Saints used most of the full two minutes before scoring the go-ahead goal, with Carey ripping a shot from the slot past Iles, making the score 2-1 in favor of the Saints just 1:54 into the third. A turnover inside the Cornell blue line found the puck on the stick of Bogosian, and he ripped a wrister into the upper corner of the net, extending the lead 11:45 to play in the period.
The Big Red rally began nearly four minutes later when the Saints tried to clear the puck from their end, but Birch intercepted a clearing attempt and fired a shot that bounced off a St. Lawrence defenseman and the weak-side post before caroming into the net, cutting the deficit to 3-2. Then, with Iles at the bench for the extra skater, Kary fed a cross-ice pass to
Mike Devin, whose shot from the point was tipped in front by
Joe Devin and underneath Moss, knotting the score at three and sending the game into overtime.
In the extra session, the Big Red earned a power-play when SLU's Justin Baker was called for hooking, and, following a Cornell timeout,
Mike Devin faked a shot and passed off to Miller, whose shot from the point beat Moss high to the left side, sparking the wild celebration off the Cornell bench.
The Big Red puts its three-game winning streak on the line next weekend in the Capital District, opening up with a 7 p.m. contest at Union on Friday night. The contest against the Dutchmen will be televised on Time Warner Sports in Central New York and in the Capital District.
