RADFORD, Va. -- The Cornell baseball team slipped to 0-3 on its spring break trip, losing the third game of a three-game set to Radford on Sunday morning, 6-2, in Radford, Va.
Frank Hager collected two of the seven hits on the day for the Big Red offense.
Brian Billigen went 1-for-4 with a run scored, while
Ben Swinford was also 1-for-4, driving in a run.
Brenton Peters also picked up an RBI on the day for the Big Red.
Corey Pappel took the loss, working six innings and allowing three earned runs while allowing six hits and four walks with six strikeouts.
Cornell (1-9) took the early lead when Billigen led off the game with a triple and scored on an RBI groundout by Peters, but the Highlanders (12-6) took the lead for good with a three-run third, sparked by a two-run triple. Radford added an unearned run in the sixth, then tacked on two more in the seventh off reliever
Mike Kazley.
Mike Carroll worked a scoreless eighth for the Big Red.
The Big Red added a run in the ninth when Hager singled to left with one out. He then scored on Swinford's double to left-center, but
Marshall Yanzick and
Anthony Irigoyen struck out to end the Cornell threat and the game.
The Big Red returns to action on Tuesday, taking on James Madison in a 6:30 p.m. contest in Harrisonburg, Va.
