THE MATCHUP – The Big Red women's tennis team (9-9, 1-4 Ivy) will wrap up its season this weekend, taking on Penn today at home before hitting the road for its last regular season competition against Princeton on Sunday, April 17. Cornell will host the Quakers (6-13, 0-5 Ivy) at the Reis Tennis Center at 3:00 p.m., before facing the Tigers (10-9, 3-2 Ivy), at the Lenz Tennis Center on Sunday April 17 at 11:00 a.m.
THE SERIES VS. PENN – Cornell and Penn first met in 1981 with the Quakers taking an 8-1 victory. Penn currently leads the series, 26-4. Last season, the Big Red picked up its first victory versus the Quakers since 1997 with a 6-1 triumph.
SCOUTING THE QUAKERS – Penn is winless in Ivy League play heading into the final weekend of Ancient Eight competition. Last weekend the Quakers fell to Harvard 6-1 and Dartmouth 5-2. Against the Crimson, Penn lost the doubles point and only took one singles win at the No. 1 spot. Versus the Big Green, the Quakers also lost the doubles point and only took two singles wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 spots.
A WIN OVER PENN WOULD – Bring the Big Red to a 2-4 record in the conference and put the team on track to either match or exceed last season's 2-5 Ivy League record.
LAST TIME VS. THE QUAKERS– Last season, the Big Red defeated Penn, 6-1 on April 18, 2010 in Philadelphia, Pa. Cornell picked up the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, before earning singles victories at five of the singles spots.
THE SERIES VS. PRINCETON – The Big Red and Princeton first met in 1973, with the Tigers sweeping Cornell. The Tigers lead the series significantly, 28-2, but the Big Red interrupted the Princeton steak in 1995 and 1996 when it took consecutive wins.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS – Princeton is just ahead of the Big Red in Ivy League rankings, holding the fifth spot with a 3-2 record against Ancient Eight opponents. The Tigers its matches split last weekend, falling to Dartmouth, 4-3 and defeating Harvard, 4-3. Versus the Big Green, Princeton lost the doubles point and only took two singles wins at the No. 2 and No. 5 spots. Against the Crimson, Princeton took the doubles point and earned wins in the No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 singles matches.
LAST TIME VS. THE TIGERS – In their last meeting, Princeton defeated Cornell 6-1. The Tigers swept the doubles point and the Big Red was only able to take one win at the No. 3 singles spot.
LAST TIME OUT FOR CORNELL – Last weekend, the Big Red fell to Brown (4-0) and Yale (3-1) on the road. On Saturday against the Bears, the Big Red lost the doubles point.
