PRINCETON, N.J. – The Big Red women's cross country team ran very well on Saturday afternoon, taking third place at the Princeton Invitational on the same field where the Heptagonal Championships will take place in two weeks.
The Big Red brought a very young squad to Princeton and scored 132 points to finish behind first-place Columbia (83) and second-place McMaster (109).
Claire DeVoe was Cornell's top runner, placing 20th in the 219-athlete field. Running the six-kilometer course in a time of 22:10, DeVoe was just seven seconds ahead of Cornell's second finisher,
Bori Tozser. Tozser's run was good enough for 24th place overall.
Just behind them was
Elizabeth Simpson, who crossed the finish line in 22:18 for 26th place, and
Maggi Szpak in a 28th-place 22:21.
Kelsey Karys was the last Big Red scorer, completing the race in 22:29 for 34th.
Cara Costich and Kristen Neidrach also ran for Cornell, taking 39th and 54th place, respectively in 22:35 and 22:49.
Stony Brook's Olivia Burne won the race in 21:25.
Cornell returns to action on Friday with the John Reif Memorial Run on The Moakley Course.
