Early Homer Holds Up For Colgate In Win Over Big Red Softball

HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Colgate's Emma Dolfi slammed a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning and held off Cornell 3-2 on Thursday afternoon at Eaton Street Field. The Raiders improved to 16-19, while the Big Red slipped to 19-17.

The Big Red rallied to get back within a run in the seventh inning, chipping away with a sacrifice fly by Lauren Bucolo to score Linda Laeufer in the sixth, then getting a solo homer by Kristen Towne with two outs in the seventh. Jenny Edwards finished the day 2-for-3 and was the lone Cornellian to put together a multi-hit day on the afternoon.

Four different hurlers saw action for the Big Red, combining to strike out 10 while allowing just six hits and just one walk.

Colgate struck in the first with a single, a walk and a two-out homer down the rightfield line by Dolfi. The Raiders managed just four hits the rest of the way, with three of those off the bat of Stephanie Hartquist.

Cornell will begin a key four-game set at Penn tomorrow at 4 p.m. in Philadelphia.
