PHILADELPHIA – Freshman
Lauren Frazier won her match at No. 6 singles and the women's tennis team took two of three doubles matches only to eventually fall to Penn on Friday, 5-2, at Hamlin Tennis Center.
The Big Red continued its season-long success in doubles, where it has a 32-20 record for the campaign after a pair of victories on Friday. The No. 2 tandem of
Christine Ordway and
Ryann Young rallied after dropping the first four games to win its match, 8-6.
Lauren Frazier and
Sarah O'Neil then delivered an 8-5 victory over the 44th-ranked team of Sol Eskenazi and Jules Rodin to sew up the first point of the match.
Penn's Alex Ion won at No. 3 singles before Frazier restored Cornell's one-point lead. Frazier defeated Emma Whitfield at No. 6, 6-0, 1-6, 6-1. But little else went the Big Red's way on the afternoon, with the Quakers winning the remaining four singles matches.
Cornell (9-9, 1-5 Ivy) will wrap up its season at 11 a.m. Sunday against Princeton at Reis Tennis Center in Ithaca.
