ITHACA, N.Y. — The men's tennis team bounced back from a tough loss Saturday with a resounding 5-2 victory over Brown on Sunday at Reis Tennis Center. The Big Red improved to 13-7 overall and 2-3 in Ivy League play.
Cornell won the first two doubles play to be completed, rendering the third moot. Junior
Venkat Iyer and sophomore
Alex Sidney cruised to an 8-4 win at the No. 1 spot, then sophomores
Kyle Berman and
Sam Fleck clinched the first point of the match with an 8-6 decision at No. 3.
The Big Red then locked up the match with straight-set singles victories from Fleck (No. 2), sophomore
Jason Luu (No. 5) and Berman (No. 6). Iyer then gave the hosts their fifth point of the day by outlasting Michael Riechmann, 6-4, 5-7, (10-8) in the No. 1 singles match.
It was the second time this season that the Big Red has defeated the Bears, with the first occurrence coming in the first round of the ECAC Indoor Championship in February. Iyer and Fleck also won their singles matches in that tilt.
Cornell will wrap up its season next weekend with matches against Penn and Princeton.
