ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Skidmore women's polo team scored the game's first three goals on Friday evening against Cornell at the Oxley Equestrian Center. That was the high water mark for the upstarts, as the Big Red dominated the rest of the way in a 28-10 victory.
Taking on their first regional opponent of the season,
Anna Winslow,
Emma Eldredge and
Elena Wicker earned the starting nod for the Big Red. The Thoroughbreds jumped to a quick 3-0 lead on a two-pointer early into the chukker. After the Big Red got on the board, the Thoroughbreds scored their second two-pointer of the chukker and pulled to a 5 -1 lead. Cornell worked its way back into the match, tying it at 5-5 before Skidmore closed the chukker with a goal to head into the second up 6-5.
Cornell quickly turned the tide in the second as Winslow added four more to her first chukker total of four goals to help the Big Red take a 13-7 lead into the half. The third saw the Cornell extend its lead as Winslow added five more goals and Cornell took the chukker 7-1, putting the home team up 20-8 heading into the fourth. Wicker gave way to
Claire Stieg in the fourth and Winslow continued her torrid pace with four more goals to secure the the 28-10 win over Skidmore. Winslow tallied 17 goals with Wicker and Eldredge each adding five to go along with one pony goal.
