STORY LINES
• The Cornell football team returns to the road to face defending Ivy League champion Harvard on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. at Harvard Stadium in Cambridge, Mass.
• The contest will be televised on Fox College Sports with Eric Frede and Steve DeOssie in the booth and Katy Fitzpatrick on the sidelines, while Barry Leonard and Buck Briggs '76 will have the radio call on WHCU 870 AM and the Ivy League Digital Network.
• The Crimson will be out to remain unbeaten, while the Big Red is in search of its first win of 2014.
• Cornell is coming off a 51-13 loss to unbeaten Yale in its home opener, a game that the Big Red out-gained 585-189 in the loss, dropping to 0-3 in the process.
• Despite the loss, a number of individuals still were able to shine. A pair of players earned Ivy League weekly honors.
• Sophomore Chris Fraser, the 2013 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, was named Special Teams Player of the Week, while freshman Nick Gesualdi was named Ancient Eight Rookie of the Week.
• Fraser, arguably the top special teams player in the conference, leads the pack in punting average (41.9) with six of his 16 kicks being downed inside the 20.
• Gesualdi is the league's top freshman tackler (14).
• The sophomore middle linebacker duo of Miles Norris (27) and Jackson Weber (18) rank first and third, respectively, on the team in tackles. Senior tri-captain Rush Imhotep is second with 20.
• Cornell's top offensive weapon continues to be junior Luke Hagy, the 29th player in school history to reach 1,000 career rushing yards and the first to hit the century mark in both rushing and receiving at Cornell. He scored the team's lone offensive touchdown against the Bulldogs with a 6-yard scoring reception.
• Senior wide receiver Lucas Shapiro, who caught five passes for 75 yards and a score last season against Harvard, enters the contest needing 165 receiving yards to hit 1,000 for his career.
• Harvard is a perfect 3-0 and has won seven consecutive games dating back to last year.
• The Crimson are coming off a 34-3 beating of Georgetown on the road this past weekend behind Andrew Casten's 139 rushing yards and four touchdowns. The Harvard defense limited the Hoyas to 227 total yards.
• Harvard has won 12 of the last 13 contests, with the Big Red's last win coming during the 2005 campaign, a 27-13 victory at home over the nationally ranked Crimson. The Crimson have won eight straight since, and haven't lost to Cornell at home since 2000 (29-28).
• The Crimson won last season's matchup 34-24 despite a great effort from Jeff Mathews '14. Mathews completed 39-of-56 passes for 472 yards and two touchdowns in the loss last year and for his career averaged 306.5 yards passing in his four starts against the Crimson (1,226 yards) with eight touchdowns.

ABOUT HARVARD
• Harvard brings a perfect 3-0 record after wins over Holy Cross (41-18), Brown (22-14) and Georgetown (34-3).
• The offense is averaging 32.3 points and 465.7 yards per game, while the defense is holding opponents to 11.7 points on 297.0 yards per contest.
• Harvard quarterbacks Scott Hosch and Conner Hempel have combined to complete 75 percent of their passes with four touchdowns and just one interception.
• Running back Andrew Casten is averaging better than 100 yards per game (108.3) with seven touchdowns in three games while averaging 7.4 yards per carry to lead an offense averaging 214.3 yards per contest.
• The two main passing targets are Andrew Fischer (22 receptions, 188 yards and a touchdown) and Anthony Firkser (11 receptions, 200 yards and a touchdown).
• The defense has been balanced with nine players recording between 10 and 19 tackles for far this year.
• Harvard ranks second nationally in fewest first downs allowed (56), fourth in scoring defense (11.7), sixth in rushing defense (89.0) and 14th in total defense (297.0 ypg.).
• Head coach Tim Murphy, Harvard's all-time winningest football coach, has won seven Ivy League titles and has produced teams with the highest winning percentage in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) over the last 13 seasons (107-25, .811).

THE CORNELL-HARVARD SERIES
• Cornell and Harvard will be meeting for the 79th time dating back to the first meeting in 1890.
• The Crimson owned the early series, capturing the first 10 games (1890-1913), while Cornell 11 won straight from 1986-1996.
• Harvard has won 12 of the last 13 contests, with the Big Red's last win coming during the 2005 campaign, a 27-13 victory at home.
• The Crimson won last year's meeting 34-24 at Schoellkopf Field.

A WIN OVER HARVARD WOULD ...
• give the Big Red its first win of 2014.
• snap an eight-game losing streak to Harvard.
• give the Big Red its first win in Cambridge, Mass., since a 29-28 victory in 2000 (0-6).
• snap a three-game skid.
• be the 631st in program history (12th-most in the Football Championship Subdivision).

THE LAST TIME OUT (Yale 51, Cornell 13 - Oct. 4, 2014 at Schoellkopf Field, Ithaca, N.Y.)
• Junior linebacker James White scooped up his first career fumble recovery and ran in a 15-yard touchdown, but the football team mustered little else in a 51-13 loss to Yale at Schoellkopf Field.
• Yale jumped out to a 20-0 lead after the first quarter, thanks in large part to going a perfect 4-for-4 on third-down conversions.
• Yale quarterback Morgan Roberts was 26-of-30 passing for 312 yards and five touchdowns before sitting out the fourth quarter.
• The Bulldogs ran for 262 yards, with All-America candidate Tyler Varga leading the way with 83 yards and a touchdown on just 10 carries.
• Of the Big Red's 189 total yards, 120 came through the air and junior running back Luke Hagy rushed for 68 yards on 18 carries.
• Cornell's lone offensive touchdown of the day came with 1:08 remaining in the fourth quarter, when junior quarterback James Few found Hagy for a 6-yard reception on fourth down.
• Sophomore Collin Shaw was the Big Red's leading receiver with four receptions for 72 yards.
• Freshman Nick Gesualdi had a game-high nine tackles in just his second career start.
• Sophomore punter Chris Fraser had another outstanding afternoon, averaging 42.5 yards on eight punts. He had two downed inside the 20 with a pair of kicks that went 50+ yards, including a 61-yarder.
• Senior place-kicker John Wells put all three of his kickoffs through the back of the end zone for touchbacks.

NOTES TO KNOW
• This is the third consecutive weekend the Big Red will be facing an undefeated foe (Bucknell 3-0; Yale 2-0; Harvard 3-0).
• Cornell has had three Ivy League performers of the week in the first three weekends of the season, including two of three Rookie of the Week picks. Jake Jatis (Sept. 29) and Nick Gesualdi (Oct. 6) have each captured Rookie of the Week honors, while Chris Fraser (Oct. 6) has taken home Special Teams Player of the Week once.
• Junior James White scooped up a fumble caused by classmate Del Barnes and returned it for a 14-yard second quarter touchdown against Yale, the team's first defensive touchdown since Justin Harris returned a fumble two yards against Princeton in 2013.
• Junior Luke Hagy carried the ball 15 times for 59 yards at Bucknell two weekends ago to push him past the 1,000 career yard mark on the ground. He became the 29th player in school history to surpass that milestone and the first to hit the century mark in both rushing and receiving at Cornell.
• Other Cornell players to hit 1K-1K milestones are Gary Wood '64 (2,156 rushing yards, 1,891 passing yards) and Ryan Kuhn (1,110 rushing yards, 1,692 passing yards).
• Freshman quarterback Jake Jatis earned the start at Bucknell, becoming just the second rookie to start a game under center. He joins good company, as two-time All-American Jeff Mathews '14 - the Ivy League's all-time leading passer - started the final nine games of the 2010 campaign to become the first.
• Jatis was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week after his performance against the Bison, the first Cornell player honored with the award since Luke Hagy did it twice in 2012.
• Sophomore punter Chris Fraser had a career day against the Bison, averaging 42.5 yards on four punts without allowing a return yard and pinning three of his kicks inside Bucknell's 12 yard line. The fourth traveled 72 yards to flip field position and was downed at the 22. That punt was the seventh-longest in school history and a career-long.
• Senior receiver Lucas Shapiro caught three passes for 26 yards against Yale, moving him within 165 yards of becoming the 21st player at Cornell to surpass 1,000 career receiving yards.
• Cornell has at least one passing touchdown in 19 consecutive games and 35 of its last 36 contests.
• The Big Red offense hasn't been shut out in 43 games, with the last coming against Penn (34-0 to close out 2009).
• Cornell leads the nation with a perfect showing once reaching the red zone — 5-of-5 with three touchdowns. Only five teams have scored in each of their red zone trips so far in 2014.
• The Big Red has been one of the least penalized teams in the country this year, ranking fourth nationally in both fewest penalties called against (17) and fewest penalty yards against (132).
• After having his first career punt returned for a 59-yard touchdown in 2013, Fraser's next 64 punts have been returned a total of 136 yards (26 return attempts, 5.2 yards per return).
• Cornell led the Ancient Eight in punting average (42.9) and net punting average (38.1) in 2013. The team's net punting average ranked 13th nationally.
• Senior John Wells has been outstanding on kickoffs in each of his last three seasons, averaging 61.2 yards with 50 touchbacks in 111 kickoffs (45 percent). He put 52 percent of his kickoffs through the back of the end zone (26-of-50) a season ago and started out strong this year with seven of his nine kickoffs resulting in touchbacks this year.
• Wells booted a pair of 27-yard field goals in the opener against Colgate and a PAT against both Bucknell and Yale. With 73 career points, he needs 10 to join the top 10 for career kicking points.

NEXT UP
• Cornell returns home for its final non-conference matchup of the season when it faces Lehigh on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 3 p.m. at Schoellkopf Field.
• The Big Red will celebrate Homecoming Weekend with the Cornell-Lehigh football game as the centerpiece.
• Cornell leads the all-time series 15-8-2, including a last-second 25-24 victory over the Mountain Hawks in 2008 in Bethlehem, Pa., in the last meeting between the programs.
