ITHACA, N.Y. — The women's squash team has made an early statement with a pair of resounding 9-0 victories against Williams and George Washington at the Cornell Round Robin this weekend at Belkin International Squash Courts.
 
With the victories, the sixth-ranked Big Red is line to keep its distance ahead of 12th-ranked Williams and eighth-ranked GW in the national rankings. Up next for Cornell is a huge showdown with seventh-ranked Stanford at 11 a.m. Sunday.
 
The Big Red opened Friday against Williams, sweeping all matches in three games. Freshmen Michèle Garceau (No. 2), Margaux Losty (No. 4), Emma Uible (No. 6) and Charlotte Knaggs (No. 7) all won handily in their collegiate debuts — as did Laura Watson from the extra-match position.
 
The Big Red got a little more resistance Saturday morning against the Colonials. In the opening rotation, senior Rachel Au and Uible won in three games, and sophomore Rachel Scherman rallied for a win in four games from the No. 3 spot. Senior Danielle Letourneau also needed to rally to win her match in four games from her familiar perch at the No. 1 spot.
