Toppe Scores Game-Winner In OT To Lift Women's Lacrosse Over Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Lindsay Toppe netted the game-winning goal with 17 seconds left in overtime to lift the Big Red over Brown, 11-10. Cornell is now 6-6 and 3-2 in Ivy League play, while Brown is 9-4 and 2-3 in league play.

Grace Healy quickly found the back of the net just 51 seconds into the game to give Brown a 1-0 lead, but Cornell's Shelby McNeilly found the equalizer 11 seconds later. The Bears then added three more tallies from 27:33 to 26:02 before Kristy Gilbert could kill the 3-0 run and add a second Big Red tally with help from Amie Dickson.

Abby Bunting and Lauren Toy each added a goal for Brown but Amanda D'Amico scored to cut Cornell's deficit to 6-3. McNeilly then had her second goal of the game when she buried a pass from Catherine Ellis with 7:44 left in the first half.

Kerianne Hunt put the Bears up 7-4 but Ellis and Lindsay Toppe put two more Big Red tallies on the board to go into half time down 7-6.

Sarah Hefner opened up scoring in the second half, capitalizing on a free-position goal for Cornell to tie the game up at 7. D'Amico had her second goal of the game to put the Big Red up, but Brown answered back with goals from Danielle Mastro and Bre Hudgins to once again take the lead.

Toppe then took advantage of a yellow card called on the Bears' Richeal Walsh and scored on the man-up opportunity to tie the game at 9 with 14:51 left to play.

With 8:48 left to play, Ellis finished a free-position shot to give Cornell a 10-9 lead. With 25 seconds left to play, Hudgins took a free-position shot and slipped it by Cornell goalkeeper Carly Gniewek to tie the game and force overtime.

With 17 seconds left, Toppe finished a free-position shot to give the Big Red the final 11-10 advantage and the program's 298th win.

Toppe's hat trick led the Big Red on offense while McNeilly, Ellis and D'Amico each had two goals. Hefner and Gilbert also scored for Cornell. Gniewek ended the day with 11 saves in the crease, with seven coming in the second half to keep Cornell in the game.

Brown was led by Kerianne Hunt's three goals while Hudgins and Mastro added two each. In net, Kellie Roddy had five saves for the Bears.

Both teams were perfect on clears, with Cornell finishing 13-for-13 and Brown 14-for-14. Brown outshot Cornell 24-19, but the Big Red outdrew the Bears 15-10 with D'Amico picking up a game-high four.

The Big Red will play host to No. 3 Syracuse Tuesday, April 15 on Schoellkopf Field at 7 p.m.
