PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The men's tennis team pulled out its second straight 4-3 victory in Ivy League play on Sunday, taking down Brown at Varsity Tennis Courts for its second league victory.
Cornell (12-7, 2-3 Ivy), ranked 52nd in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, took an early 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point. The 49th-ranked pairing of juniors
Jason Luu and
Quoc-Daniel Nguyen cruised to an 8-3 victory at the No. 1 spot, and junior
Sam Fleck and freshman
Chris Vrabel matched that score for a win at No. 2.
The Big Red then went on to win the top three singles matches. Sophomore
Stefan Vinti was the only Big Red competitor to win in straight sets, losing just three games at the No. 2 position. Freshman
Bernardo Casares Rosa then rallied for a three-set victory at No. 3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. At the top of the lineup, Fleck took down Justin To for a 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 and help Cornell to a weekend sweep.
The Big Red wraps up regular-season play next weekend with a match on the road against Princeton at 1 p.m. Friday followed by a 1 p.m. match against Penn on Sunday at Reis Tennis Center.
