Collin McGee had two hits apiece, but the baseball team stranded 10 runners on base Thursday in a 7-0 loss to Binghamton at Hoy Field.
Binghamton (10-15) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an unearned run, then broke the game open with four more in the top of the third.
Winawer extended his hitting streak to seven games with a single up the middle in the fourth. The reigning Ivy League Rookie of the Week – making his first career start in right field – later added a bunt single in the eighth, running his total to 12 hits over the last seven games.
Whetsel had a pair of stolen bases following his singles in the first and third innings, pushing his season total to a team-leading 13. He stole third base each time, but he was left stranded both times.
McGee was 2-for-2 after entering the game in the sixth inning, pulling a pair of base hit into left field.
The Big Red used seven pitchers on the day, with freshman
Scott Soltis proving to be the most effective. He worked three shutout innings, scattering four hits and two walks while fanning three. Junior

Tiger Smith worked one scoreless inning apiece to close out the game.
Cornell (15-15) returns to action this weekend with a four-game series against defending Ivy League champion Columbia. The series at Hoy Field begins with a noon doubleheader Saturday.
