Men's Tennis Suffers 4-2 Setback vs. Dartmouth

4/5/2014 9:49:00 PM

ITHACA, N.Y. – Junior Sam Fleck won his No. 1 singles match and the men's tennis also locked up the doubles point Saturday, but it wasn't enough in a 4-2 loss to Dartmouth in a showdown of nationally-ranked Ivy League squads at Reis Tennis Center.

Cornell (10-6, 0-2 Ivy League) got off to a good start, with the junior doubles team of Jason Luu and Quoc-Daniel Nguyen winning at the No. 1 spot against a tandem ranked 20th in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Freshmen Bernardo Casares Rosa and Colin Sinclair also won at the No. 3 spot in a tiebreaker to lock down the opening point for the hosts.

Fleck accounted for the Big Red's second point with a close victory at the No. 1 singles spot, 7-6, 7-5. There were three other matches that needed tiebreakers, but the Big Green prevailed in each of them – including a third-set tiebreaker at the No. 2 position.

Cornell is back in action at 2 p.m. Sunday when it plays host to Harvard at Reis. Live scores for the match will be posted here.
