Next Up, Nationals: Polo Teams Eye USPA Collegiate Titles

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell men's and women's polo teams shared the spotlight with regional titles two weekends ago in Storrs, Conn. This week, the spotlight grows even brighter as the USPA Collegiate Nationals begin in Houston, Texas.

The women kick off nationals with the No. 1 seed and will face Cal Poly in semifinal number one on Wednesday, April 9 at 11 a.m. and then would face either Virginia or SMU in the finals with a win. The championship game will take place on Saturday, April 12 at 9 a.m. The men will open its quest for a national title against no. 1 seed Westmont on Thursday, April 10 at 11 a.m., with the winner meeting either Virginia or SMU in the championship game following the women's championship on Saturday, April 12.

The women will be in search of their 14th national title in program history and first since 2011, while also trying to advance to the finals for the fourth consecutive season. Cornell won the Northeast Regional title with a 23-11 win over Connecticut in the Huskies' home arena to improve to 17-3 on the season. The Big Red enters the tournament with seven consecutive victories and is 13-1 in its last 14 contests. Head coach David Eldredge picked up his 450th win with the women's program earlier this spring and now sports a 456-124-17 (.778) record.

The men claimed the program's 20th regional title with a 23-11 triumph over Skidmore. The men are now 13-5 on the year with a four-match win streak, including 13-3 in its last 16 contests, with all three of its losses coming to No. 2 seed Virginia. Eldredge sports a 409-171-8 overall record (.702) with the men. The Big Red has won 11 national titles in program history, the most recent coming in 2005.
