ITHACA, N.Y. – The Big Red field hockey team controlled the game from start to finish, dominating Lehigh and coming away with a 6-0 victory this evening at the Ulrich Sports Complex in Bethlehem, Pa. The win improved the Big Red to 2-1 overall and gave Cornell its 19th straight in the series, while improving head coach
Donna Hornibrook to 10-0 vs. the Mountain Hawks.
Cornell held the significant advantage in both shots (19-3) and penalty corners (8-0), as Cornell goalies
Kelly Johnson and
Elizabeth Schaeffler combined for the shutout with neither being required to make a save.
The Big Red was led by

Lehigh (0-5) starting goalie Julia Ward made four saves and allowed five goals in 58:14, before Katie Morris came in for the final 11:46 and made one save and allowed one goal.
Cornell wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, scoring exactly one-minute in to the contest when Horak converted off a pass from Weeks.
Back-to-back penalty corners by Siergiej and Horak closed the first and open the second half of play and extended the lead to 3-0 in the 46th minute of the contest. Both Standiford and DiPastina were awarded assists on each of the goals.
Just over three minutes later, Cornell was awarded its first penalty stroke of the season and Siergiej converted to make it a 4-0 game.
DiPastina registered her first goal of the season and made it a 5-0 advantage when she drove down the left side of the circle and then ripped a shot that managed to get through traffic and trickle into the goal.
Carlson then capped the scoring in the 66th minute when she tipped a shot from DePetro into the goal to account for the 6-0 final.
Cornell is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 14 when it travels to the University of Delaware to take on the Blue Hens at Rullo Stadium at 1 p.m.
