ITHACA, N.Y. — The women's squash team won two of three matches in a busy weekend at Belkin International Squash Courts. Cornell swept St. Lawrence on Friday, topped Drexel 7-2 on Saturday, then dropped a 9-0 decision to No. 1-ranked Trinity on Sunday.
The Big Red, firmly entrenched in the College Squash Association's No. 6 ranking for the last three years, started off with a convincing 9-0 victory over the 20th-ranked Saints. Each scoring match was decided in three sets, with Cornell conceding more than 15 points in just one of the nine tilts. Freshman
Charlotte Knaggs had the most convincing victory at the No. 7 sport, yielding just six points.
Fourteenth-ranked Drexel was the weekend's middle match, with Cornell winning handily despite falling in two of the day's five-set matches. Freshman
Margaux Losty rallied from two sets down at the No. 3 position to complete a sweep of the first rotation for the Big Red. All three matches in the second rotation were decided in the minimum three sets, with freshman Michèle Garceau outlasting her opponent at No. 2 with a win at 18 points.
The Big Red then came up empty against the powerhouse Bantams on Sunday in the squad's second chance at moving up in the national rankings this season. Garceau (No. 3) and classmate
Emma Uible (No. 5) led their respective matches before eventually falling in five sets.
Cornell (7-2) hits the road for its next three matches — all within the Ivy League. The Big Red heads to Harvard on Saturday and Dartmouth on Sunday before traveling to Penn on Friday, Feb. 6.
