Victoria Wines Places Third At Ivy League Round Robin, Earns First Team Honors

NEW YORK – Cornell sophomore Victoria Wines became the first Big Red fencer in the history of the women's program to earn back-to-back first-team All-Ivy accolades when she finished third overall in the epee at the 2015 Ivy League Round Robin, which concluded today at Columbia's Levien Gymnasium in New York City.
 
Wines went 13-5 over the course of the two-day tournament to lead the Big Red.
 
In addition to Wines stellar performance, Jasmine Chow took ninth overall in the epee competition with a record of 9-6. In the women's foil, Luby Kiriakidi was the Big Red's top finisher with a record of 7-7, while Megan Buteau (7-11) led the saber squad.
 
Cornell entered Monday with a record of 2-2, with wins over Brown and Yale, but dropped a pair of decisions today to Harvard and Columbia to slip to fifth place overall with a record of 2-4.
 
The Lions took home the Ivy League title with a perfect record of 6-0 as it defeated Cornell, 20-7. Despite the loss, the epee squad earned a 5-4 victory.
 
Cornell also dropped a 22-5 decision to Harvard.
