ITHACA, N.Y. — The women's tennis team cruised to its third consecutive victory on Saturday morning, winning each of its matches in straight sets to secure a 7-0 victory over Marist at Reis Tennis Center.
Sophomores
Marika Cusick and
Alexandra D'Ascenzo teamed up for an 8-1 victory at the No. 1 doubles position, then went on to lose just one game apiece in their respective singles matches — D'Ascenzo from the No. 2 position and Cusick at No. 3. Junior
Jane Stewart also won her No. 6 singles match by an identical margin, topping Elizabeth Brozovich, 6-0, 6-1. Cornell (4-5) won its other two doubles matches by an 8-2 margin, and no Big Red competitor dropped more than three games in the reamining three singles matches.
This was the Big Red's first 7-0 sweep of Marist, with the only other meeting in the programs' histories coming in 2005 and ended in a 6-1 Cornell triumph. The Big Red concludes the non-league portion of its schedule Saturday, March 21 with a home doubleheader starting at 9 a.m. against Binghamton and Niagara.
