HARTFORD, Conn. —
Sydney Francis won her second match of the weekend from the No. 8 position, but the women's squash team dropped an 8-1 decision to Trinity on Monday afternoon. With the win, the sixth-ranked Bantams (4-1) effectively defended their national standing by staving off seventh-ranked Cornell (3-2).
Francis became the Big Red's only multiple winner on a challenging road trip including three matches in a span of three days, defeating Alexia Echeverria. Francis rallied after dropping the first set, eventually winning in four. None of the day's matches went to five sets, with
Emma Uible (No. 3) and
Lauren Leizman (No. 7) the only other Cornell competitors to claim a set in their respective matches.
The Big Red's next match will be also be its first home contest of the season when it takes on Columbia at noon Friday at Belkin International Squash Courts in Ithaca, N.Y.
