ITHACA, N.Y. — The men's tennis team got its dual season off to winning start Friday, fending off Buffalo for a 4-3 victory at Reis Tennis Center.
Colin Sinclair,
Stefan Vinti and
Karim Arem each won singles and doubles matches for the Big Red.
Cornell started the day by securing the doubles point. Vinti and Arem teamed up to win at the No. 3 position with the other two matches close. Sinclair and freshman
David Volfson broke serve with their match tied at 5, then won on their serve for a 7-5 victory and the match's first point.
That point essentially turned out to be the difference, though Cornell had already clinched the match by the time Buffalo (1-2) won the day's final singles tilt. Sinclair (No. 4) and Vinti (No. 5) both won in straight sets to put the Big Red on the brink of winning the match, then Arem stormed back at the No. 6 position for his first collegiate dual victory, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Cornell returns to Reis for its next match against North Florida at 4 p.m. Thursday before a trip to New York for matches against Michigan and Iowa over the following weekend.
